ECONOMY NEWS

  • GasBuddy reported that average gasoline prices in Texas rose by 5.9 cents per gallon over the last week, reaching 13.5 cents above a month ago and 2.4 cents below last year; prices ranged from $1.89 to $3.49 per gallon across over 13,000 stations.  News Channel 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northwest Texas Field & Stream will offer a mandatory Hunter Education course on Mar. 21 for hunters born on or after Sept. 2; novice hunters 9 and older will learn hunting safety & wildlife conservation at its office on Southwest Parkway from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for $15 pre-registration.  News Channel 6
  • MSU Texas' McCoy College of Science, Mathematics and Engineering announced its STEM Pathways Mentorship Program to pair middle and high school students with university mentors for hands on STEM learning. Planning continues this spring, and the program will launch this summer in partnership with Café con Leche’s Road to College Program.  News Channel 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Wichita Falls will offer free compost to residents participating in its Choose to Reuse Program who show a water bill with the $3.00 recycling charge. Pickups are on Saturday, March 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Organics Facility (at the Landfill on Wiley Road).  News Channel 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas will start Daylight Saving Time on March 8 at 2 a.m. (clocks advance to 3 a.m.) and end it on Nov. 1 at 2 a.m. Residents should update manual clocks and work schedules to adjust for the time change.  Times Record News

  • Today, Interfaith Outreach Services offers free used medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, and bedside toilets for those in need through its Equipment Connection program, and residents can call 940-322-1365 for pick-ups, drop-offs, or delivery.  Times Record News

  • Gabrielle Wrightsman and Emma Kasza-James of the MSU women’s cycling team built on recent first place wins in College Station and are preparing for nationals in Madison. The riders, originally from Wisconsin, work together using their strengths for a promising season.  News Channel 6
