COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Texas Center for Local Food awarded a USDA grant to the Wichita Falls Farmers Market—one of 10 markets in Texas to receive funding to support family engagement events. The grant will fund projects over the next three years that bring communities together to celebrate local food and promote healthy eating.  Texoma's Homepage

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wichita Falls City Council approved deals on Tuesday to support construction of a new Winco supermarket and a second 7 Brew coffee shop. Winco will receive up to $1.284 million in tax increment financing to build a roadway along South Wenonah — a project expected to save up to $1 million for taxpayers and open in September with about 125 workers — while 7 Brew will pay $100,000 to build a turn lane at Piedmont and Kemp and open this summer with 50 to 60 workers, and councilors also approved grants of $10,000 for mosquito control and $150,000 for opioid abuse prevention.  Times Record News
  • 7 Brew is planning a new coffee shop at Piedmont and Kemp and will pay $100,000 for a right-turn lane to ease traffic— the city will spend $30,000 to move a traffic light.   • Grubbs Family of Dealerships took over several Wichita Falls auto dealerships from Foundation Auto, including Hyundai, Kia, GMC, Cadillac, BMW, Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge Ram—retaining 98% of the staff and ready to move into a new Hyundai building. The firm will construct a new building for the Kia dealership on Jacksboro Highway—promising improved service and training as it meets challenges from tariffs and trade wars.  Times Record News

  • Wichita County Judge Jim Johnson extended the outdoor burn ban in unincorporated areas after consulting with the Emergency Management Office and volunteer fire chiefs—this ban, announced on March 18, will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. on April 30.  Texoma's Homepage
