  • The Wichita Falls Housing Authority will host a free Early Childhood Fair Tuesday, April 8 at the Paul Irwin Center from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Pregnant women, parents and grandparents of children from newborn to five plus can register for free programs—multiple agencies will offer giveaways, raffles, prizes, car seat safety checks and coupons from Raising Cane’s and Bahama Bucks to the first 100 children.  Texoma's Homepage
  • Army veteran Joel Jimenez, who earned a Purple Heart in Vietnam, was honored with a $600 Pay It Forward check—he now leads the local chapter of Disabled American Veterans.  News Channel 6

CRIME NEWS

  • Daniel Gilbreath, a man convicted of arson, was returned to jail after his ankle monitor sent an alert on March 7 when it was found in a dumpster—he now faces charges for tampering with his device and violating parole while being held without bond.  Texoma's Homepage

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents who wanted to vote in local races had to register by April 3. Early voting will begin Tuesday, April 22 — counties will accept mail ballots until that day — and polls will open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Saturday, May 3.  News Channel 6
  • Texas residents will need to obtain a Real ID-compliant driver's license or identification card—marked with a gold star—by May 7 to access federal facilities and board planes. The Texas DPS said applicants must bring a birth certificate, Social Security card, and vehicle registration and may renew online or apply in person.  Times Record News
  • TxDOT started a new campaign this April to warn drivers against texting while driving. The campaign shares the story of Maria Espinosa (whose son, Misael Rico, was hit at age 6 and spent six months in a coma) and shows that distracted driving led to more than 91,000 crashes and 370 deaths last year (data by TxDOT).  News Channel 6

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Wichita Falls Endoscopy Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary on April 5th as it marks two decades of caring for thousands of patients.
