  • Floral Heights United Methodist Church closed over a year ago after serving for more than 100 years and will go to auction on May 5 as part of a plan to revitalize central Wichita Falls — Michael Mitchell, chair of the project, said potential buyers are encouraged to restore the building even though repairs will be needed.  Texoma's Homepage
  • City of Wichita Falls Animal Services Center featured Moo Moo as Pet of the Week (named for her cow-like fur). The three-month-old puppy is available for adoption at a fee of $40 (covering a microchip, initial vaccinations and flea and tick preventative).  News Channel 6
  • Today, Emily's Legacy Pet Rescue highlights Daisy May, a 14-year-old dog known for her sweet personality and ease with other dogs available for adoption at Petco from noon to 4 p.m. Families may adopt her for a $140 fee—additional pets are also on offer.  News Channel 6

CRIME NEWS

  • Brandon Reginald Curry, a 24-year-old Wichita Falls resident, pleaded guilty on April 4 to murder and to manufacturing and delivering fentanyl for the 2022 death of Midwestern State University student Adam Daniel Sattler—he received a 30-year sentence for the murder with a concurrent 10-year sentence for the drug charge.  Times Record News
  • On April 16, after being refused alcohol in Iowa Park, James Patrick Ellis of Silsbee drove recklessly on Hwy 287, nearly colliding with several vehicles as he evaded officers by speeding over 70 mph until his vehicle pulled into a Harrold truck stop—he was arrested and booked into Wichita County Jail on charges of evading arrest and driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.188.  Texoma's Homepage

  • WFISD will hold a job fair on April 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Career Education Center at 500 E. Hatton Road where individuals interested in education can explore teaching jobs for the 2025-2026 school year; prospective teachers are encouraged to dress professionally and bring copies of their resumes to speak with school administrators.  Times Record News
  • After nearly 11 hours of debate, Texas lawmakers approved a school choice bill that will give students $10,000 in annual vouchers—up to $30,000 for those with special needs—and may cost taxpayers $1 billion in its first two years. Gov. Greg Abbott praised the measure while critics warned it could lead to Wichita Falls public schools losing up to 98 teachers, and the bill now awaits his final approval.  News Channel 6

  • Nature lovers from Wichita Falls and nearby areas are invited to join the 10th annual City Nature Challenge from April 25 to April 28 to take photos of plants and animals using the free iNaturalist app — their pictures will help track native and invasive species.   • The Wichita Falls TXDOT is raising work zone safety awareness during National Work Zone Awareness week—urging drivers to slow down and focus on signals in highway construction zones after nearly 28,000 work zone crashes in 2024. The agency noted that 81% of crash fatalities involved drivers or passengers and warned motorists across nine local counties to drive cautiously.  News Channel 6
