  • United Supermarkets donated over a ton of healthy fruit to Wichita Falls Area Food Bank today—part of the Take a Bite Out of Hunger campaign—adding to 4,000 pounds of food from local groups that will help over 3,000 people facing food insecurity.  News Channel 6
  • The Humane Society of Wichita County is offering free housing for animals affected by flooding & providing these services at no charge & urging residents to call for help if needed.  Texoma's Homepage
  • Sheppard Air Force Base personnel partnered with the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank in a base-wide food donation competition that ended Friday—collecting 5,712 pounds of food when early-year donations typically drop. The contest, part of the Feds Feed Families campaign, offered prizes for the highest volume of donations and best pallet decoration.  Times Record News

CRIME NEWS

  • An Allred prison inmate, William Wallace, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for strangling fellow inmate Delandro Coridro Hamilton on Sept. 28 and was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the 30th District Court—he was already serving time for burglary convictions and received credit for 388 days served.  Times Record News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • GasBuddy reported gas prices in Texas rose by 2.3 cents per gallon last week to average $2.70 today — prices still remain 14.5 cents lower than last month and 56.2 cents cheaper than a year ago.  News Channel 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wichita Falls area is no longer in a drought as combined lake levels for Lake Kickapoo + Lake Arrowhead rose 13% to reach 88.2%. The Water Resources Board will meet soon to discuss the situation, but Stage 1 drought restrictions will remain until the City Council lifts them.  News Channel 6
  • City officials reported that the Wichita River was at 16.96 feet early Monday after steady runoff and fresh rainfall kept the water higher than usual—flooding in structures is not expected until the river rises above 21 feet, though several area roads remain closed as water drains slowly into saturated ground.  News Channel 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration designated it to lower motorcycle crashes and fatalities. In the Wichita Falls TxDOT district, there have been 76 motorcycle accidents (including five fatalities) this year, and Copperhead Harley-Davidson will begin its rider safety course this weekend.  News Channel 6
