WFISD held its 36th annual Partners in Education Banquet Tuesday night at Legacy High School to honor volunteers, mentors and local organizations for their contributions.
The banquet presented awards to groups such as the Junior League and United Supermarkets Iowa Park Rd—highlighting a continued effort to build strong school-community ties.
🌲 Environment
Heavy rains have filled Wichita Falls lakes and caused several street closures while water restrictions stay in effect until the City Council votes to lift them—Arrowhead and Kickapoo reached 88.2 percent of capacity and Lake Kemp is full.
The National Weather Service has kept the area in a flood watch through tonight and forecasts 1 to 3 inches of rain until Friday.

Wichita Falls City Council decided Tuesday not to sell leased lake lots at Lakes Arrowhead and Kickapoo and will continue the current lease agreements after fee increases of 30% and 10% raised local concerns.
In other business, the council designated a portion of the U.S. Highway 82 Overpass in honor of Ray Gonzalez, Jr. — a Purple Heart recipient and longtime civic leader.
Heavy rain caused flooding and road closures on the east side, and neighbors raised concerns with city officials about local flood control.
City Public Works said a broken floodgate near Duncan Street delayed repairs and work could resume within the next five months if weather permits—neighbors hope the fix will ease future flooding.

Christ Counseling Ministry held its Lifeline Dinner fundraiser during Mental Health Awareness Month* to raise funds for its fee assistance program that makes counseling affordable, with guest speaker Mary Royal sharing her inspiring journey as a cancer survivor*.
May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, originally designated in 1949 to clear up misconceptions about mental disorders and encourage earlier treatment.
Andrew Martin of Helen Farabee Centers said that noticing changes in daily routines or reactions to weather events — common signs of mental health issues — may prompt someone to seek help.
