  • Today, Catholic groups from Wichita Falls made a pilgrimage along Seymour Highway to reach Immaculate Conception of Mary Church in honor of the Jubilee Year of Hope — Father Kyle Walterscheid organized the route two weeks ago and the event coincided with the day Pope Leo XIV was confirmed at the Vatican, giving participants a double blessing.  Texoma's Homepage
  • The Wichita Falls Rotary Club hosted its second annual Service Above Self award ceremony and honored first responder Officer Jesse Bartow for his work supporting public safety—Rotary Club President John Mayfield and Mike Saville selected Bartow after reviewing nomination packages from fire, ambulance, police, and sheriff departments.   • Child Care Partners hosted the third annual Arthur B. Williams luncheon last night to honor Texoma working moms by recognizing winners from over 40 nominees in four award categories, including Samantha Hurtado, Ashley McKie, Teresa Caves, and Valerie Malone — the event also highlighted challenges due to reduced childcare funding.   • Wichita Falls police arrested Abidemi Bello on May 7 after he was found with mail from 19 different addresses and he is held on a $5,000 bond — records show he was arrested on April 24 and released on May 6.  Texoma's Homepage

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Memorial High students Evan Liang, Jimin and Jun Park won the Red River Science and Engineering Fair with an AI project that uses deep learning to detect hand gestures for prosthetic devices. They will travel to Columbus, Ohio the week of May 11 to present their work and compete for a $100,000 prize.  Texoma's Homepage

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting May 7, travelers were required to have a gold star on their official ID to board domestic flights under the REAL ID Act—Wichita Falls Regional Airport reported a smooth rollout with a few individuals opting to use passports when necessary.  News Channel 6
  • TxDOT launched the Share the Road: Look Twice for Motorcycles campaign as part of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and urged drivers to check intersections and lanes for riders as summer nears. Wichita Falls Police said they recorded 35 motorcycle crashes last year—including two fatalities— and stressed that double checking can help save lives.  Times Record News
