COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Wichita Falls honored the Salvation Army with a proclamation today as National Salvation Army Week kicked off to recognize its service to local families since 1910. The Wichita Falls Salvation Army will host community events this week (with volunteers from local institutions supporting their efforts).  News Channel 6
  • Wichita Falls Police Department held a memorial service to honor seven officers who gave their lives for the community. Chief Manuel Borrego and family members remembered Lt. Walter Tommy Collins, who died in July 1989 while helping fellow officers — ensuring his sacrifice is never forgotten.  Texoma's Homepage
  • Local NFL player Adrian Colbert will lead another community cleanup with Councilman Robert Brooks to help revitalize local neighborhoods. The cleanup will take place at noon on Saturday, May 17 at Jalonick Park — community members are invited to join.  News Channel 6

CRIME NEWS

  • Wichita Falls Area Crime Stoppers said that 47-year-old Destinee Smith—described as a 5’8 woman with brown hair and brown eyes—is wanted for two counts of forgery and urges anyone who sees her to call the police immediately.  News Channel 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Saturday morning, Wichita Falls ISD Career Education Center students ran pop-up businesses at the Downtown Wichita Falls Farmers Market for Market Day 2025—testing their skills in product selection, finance, and advertising. Funded by an IDEA grant, the project gave 11th and 12th graders from Legacy and Memorial high schools hands-on experience in entrepreneurship.  Times Record News
  • At Midwestern State University, top students were honored on April 25 in D.L. Ligon Coliseum when Rykir J.A. Evans was named Hardin Scholar with a $3,000 scholarship plus Kandice R. Adams was named Clark Scholar with a $1,500 scholarship. Additional awards recognized leadership, service and academic excellence across several academic programs.  Times Record News

  • Recent rains have nearly filled Wichita Falls lakes to 97.3% capacity while stage 1 water restrictions remain in effect pending City Council approval on May 20.
