  • Memorial Day events are planned in Wichita Falls with a remembrance ceremony at 8 a.m. Monday at the County Cemetery — Thomas Fowler American Legion Post No. 169 will host a service at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Crestview Cemetery. Elliston Assisted Living will host a cookout Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $10 with free meals for veterans and Jellystone Park resort will offer themed events for guests from Friday through Monday.  Times Record News

CRIME NEWS

  • Police were involved in a four-hour standoff on Gilbert Avenue last night and arrested 54-year-old Donald Nail without injuries—resident Sylvia Campos said she feared for her family's safety as bullets hit her home, including her son's room.  News Channel 6
  • A jury was seated Tuesday afternoon in the trial of Anthony Michael Kienlen, who is accused of firing at officers and firefighters during a 2021 incident on Turkey Ranch Road west of Wichita Falls—opening statements are scheduled for Wednesday morning.  Times Record News
  • Late last night on Gilbert Avenue a 54-year-old man left his residence firing toward a victim and officers—SWAT diffused the standoff and he was charged with 1 count of deadly conduct, 4 counts of aggravated assault and 2 counts of aggravated assault against a public servant.  News Channel 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is urging boaters to clean, drain & dry their boats as Memorial Day weekend will kick off the boating season to prevent zebra mussels and giant salvinia from damaging local lakes. The department said following these steps will be required by law to protect our waterways.  News Channel 6

  • Wichita Falls homeowners have seen insurance rates rise as severe weather like tornadoes, hail, and strong winds make damage more likely. Richard Johnson from the Insurance Council of Texas advises checking policies yearly and shopping around—using independent agents or comparison websites—to find the best coverage.  News Channel 6

  • The Wichita Falls City Council voted Tuesday to lift drought restrictions for water customers after recent rain raised lake levels above 90% capacity. The council also approved a $1.9 million grant for a Circle Trail extension—while increasing firefighter staffing, awarding demolition bids, and passing a tax abatement resolution.  Times Record News
