  • Local safety advocates urged Wichita Falls residents to buckle up in their vehicles to lower injuries and avoid fines—local officers may increase checks to enforce seatbelt laws. They stressed that wearing a seatbelt is essential for safe travel on our roads.  News Channel 6
  • National Missing Children Day will be observed on May 25 to honor efforts by various organizations to protect children and raise awareness about the over 31,000 missing child reports from 2024 in Texas. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (91% recovery rate in 2024) has helped recover over 450,000 cases and urges community members to share safety tips and report any information that may assist in further recoveries.  News Channel 6
  • Smith’s Gardentown will hold Plantapalooza on May 31 at 4940 Seymour Hwy from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the event will feature panel discussions, gardening demonstrations by experts including the Texas Garden Guy, The Plant Prof, Gardening with Dez and The Vital Root, along with food trucks, bounce houses and door prize drawings.  Times Record News

CRIME NEWS

  • The trial for Anthony Kienlen began on Wednesday with lawyers presenting opposing views at his home on Turkey Ranch Road near Wichita Falls—one side saying he aimed to kill officers and the other saying he was trying to get them to shoot him in a mental crisis, with Kienlen already pleading guilty to 14 counts of aggravated assault while the jury will rule on the charge of attempted capital murder.  Times Record News

  • Midwestern State University honored summa cum laude graduates from its six colleges at the May 17 commencement when President Stacia Haynie presented the President’s Medal for Excellence to students with GPAs of at least 3.9 + they excelled in diverse majors. The awards recognized top scholars in fields including accounting, management, nursing, music and engineering + marking a high level of academic achievement.  Times Record News

  • Wichita Falls City Council approved the bid for the Circle Trail project—completion is set to follow soon, with officials outlining next steps for the improvement.  News Channel 6
  • Governor Greg Abbott announced that Texas was ranked as the top state in the nation for job creation after adding 37,700 new jobs in April according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Since Abbott took office in January 2015, Texas has added over 2.5 million jobs + it continues to lead in new job growth.  News Channel 6
