- ➤ The city of Wichita Falls applied for a $305,000 grant from the Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority to buy a smart drone that can get a closer look at fires, burglaries, or motor vehicle thefts before first responders arrive. Police Chief Manuel Borrego said the drone will launch from a fixed base, fly itself when a 911 call comes in, and return to its base to recharge — the city must pay $61,000 of the cost and expects a decision in late 2026.
