COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wichita Falls Wichita County Public Health District’s WIC program will host its Summer Kickoff event (a free nutrition and wellness celebration) on Friday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to noon at MPEC Exhibit Hall B where more than 20 community partners will offer vouchers and resource information. Families will also enjoy games, an obstacle course, a parachute, and prizes, including door prizes, during the event.  Texoma's Homepage
  • On May 11, the National Association of Letter Carriers and Wichita Falls Area Food Bank hosted the successful 'Stamp Out Hunger' initiative where letter carriers picked up food donations that totaled 38,303 pounds — enough for 31,919 meals. The food bank now needs volunteers to help process these donations so neighbors can receive the food.  Texoma's Homepage

CRIME NEWS

  • At the Wichita County Courthouse, a jury on May 27 found Anthony Kienlen guilty of one count of attempted capital murder for firing on officers during a standoff at a Turkey Ranch Road home on Oct. 13—law enforcement and firefighters responded to the incident.  Times Record News

  • The Arts Council of Wichita Falls at the Kemp Center is hosting its 13th annual Cowboy True art exhibit through the rest of the week to celebrate Western heritage—showcasing local artists’ work in both traditional crafts and modern styles.  News Channel 6
  • On May 27, Wichita Falls Parks and Recreation hosted a free outdoor concert at Bud Daniel Park where Downtown Royalty performed rock music for local fans seated on lawn chairs—an event that is part of the ongoing Outdoor Concert Series.  Times Record News

  • Midwestern State University recognized 977 honor students for Spring 2025—360 earned the President’s Honor Roll, 267 the Provost’s Honor Roll, and 350 the Dean’s Honor Roll based on strict GPA and grade requirements.  Times Record News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Downtown Wichita Falls Development Inc. will cut its two-person staff by the end of June as it transfers economic development duties to the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce and focuses on events and downtown improvements like streetscapes and parks. The board will distribute day-to-day tasks among its 12 members while plans for its 100-year-old headquarters remain uncertain.  Times Record News
  • TxDOT will begin concrete repairs on northbound I-44 near the Scotland Park exit today to fix buckled concrete, as crews cut out damaged sections and pour new slabs; the lanes will be closed until Friday, May 30 to limit delays.  News Channel 6
