🏘️ Community
United Regional held its first cleanup day on June 21 when volunteers used rakes, mowers, and weed whackers to clean areas under the central freeway overpass and near the old Austin school.
The group will hold more cleanups before the Hotter n’ Hell ride in August (CEO Cory Edmondson said he noticed trash that showed a chance to care for the town).
Local festivities for Fourth of July offer parades, live music, fireworks and family activities at Wichita Falls events like the Kell House celebration and 4th in the Falls Freedom Fest.
Other free events are scheduled in nearby communities (Burkburnett, Electra, Henrietta, Iowa Park and Jolly) from June 27 through July 4.
🏛️ Government
Texas signed a new law that requires every public school classroom to display a 16 by 20 inch copy of the Ten Commandments, and the measure passed the state House and Senate in a session ending June 2.
Supporters say the display reflects our nation’s core values—legal experts expect the law to face challenges over church—state separation.
