EDUCATION NEWS

  • WFISD's new high schools Memorial — rated D — and Legacy — rated F — along with Hirschi Middle — rated D — received poor ratings from the state accountability system on Wednesday. Superintendent Dr. Donny Lee said the low marks came from a lack of past data and warned that TEA may intervene with Hirschi as improvements are expected next year.  Times Record News
  • Camp Fire of North Texas has opened registration for its after school program, inviting families to sign up for engaging activities—details on enrollment and schedules will be shared soon.  News Channel 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local Sheriff David Duke has worked in Wichita County for over 40 years and will retire Aug. 31 to spend more time with his family—Deputy Chief William Rutledge will take charge as Duke steps aside. His retirement marks the end of an era in our county's law enforcement.  News Channel 6
  • WFISD trustees voted on Tuesday to sell the former Kirby Middle School property to the Chamber of Commerce for $1.225 million as the chamber plans to transfer it to the city for a police station before the year ends. The board also approved the sale of Lamar Elementary and two vacant lots—while rejecting a $150,000 bid for the 112-year-old Sam Houston Elementary.  Times Record News

  • The Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District inspected local restaurants and food stores from July 30—Aug. 12 to check compliance with state food safety rules. Many establishments earned perfect scores while others received high to moderate ratings.  Times Record News
