  • City of Wichita Falls Animal Services featured Sable—an adult black short-haired cat who enjoys cuddling and watching people in the windows—and now offers her for adoption at 1207 Hatton Road for a $40 fee covering a microchip and initial vaccinations.  News Channel 6

  • Spirit Halloween will open a new store soon at Sikes Senter Mall located at 3111 Midwestern Parkway in Wichita Falls—next to Verizon—and the company has listed seasonal jobs online.  Times Record News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Dinosaur Revolution exhibit now open at the Old Post Office Museum and Art Center in Graham gives families a chance to test their dinosaur knowledge in a maze — wrong answers lead to dead ends and right answers let visitors move ahead — with fun activities like a fossil dig and mini zip line, and it will run until October 25.  News Channel 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WFISD received an overall D rating for the 2024-25 school year largely due to low scores at Legacy High School (F) and Memorial High School (D) among 12,636 students, with challenges shown by a high proportion of economically disadvantaged learners (67.1%). Superintendent Dr. Donny Lee said the district will see improved ratings next year with a full year of comparative data and TEA guidance expected next week.  Times Record News

  • The City of Wichita Falls approved buying Sikes Senter Mall for up to $28 million after a public hearing on August 14 where more than 18 citizens shared their opinions. The city plans to finish the purchase by fall and expects construction to be done by 2031 — local business owners and residents showed both support and concerns.  News Channel 6

HEALTH NEWS

  • United Regional Cancer Center today honored Dr. Preveen Reddy for using advanced PET scans to help patients live longer as part of Stand Up To Cancer Day. The hospital values his compassionate oncology care and innovative work (PET scans) that gives hope to local families.  News Channel 6
  • Kennedy Elenburg, a 7-year-old from Henrietta who was declared cancer-free in 2023 after a leukemia diagnosis at age 3, now enjoys playing with slime, glitter, and basketball. Her mother said that despite challenges from treatment side effects—such as potential learning issues—she remains hopeful for Kennedy’s future.  News Channel 6
  • Daquebra Johnson, who has battled five types of cancer since 2021 and is now fighting bone cancer, is starting her business Stage IV to offer clothing and accessories that honor her journey—she hopes the new brand will help inspire others facing cancer.  News Channel 6
