COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rear Adm. Alexis T. Walker cut the ribbon at the Texas-Oklahoma Fair on September 17 at the Multi-Purpose Events Center—joined by Mayor Tim Short, fair chair Megan Sila, and Navy sailors who appeared during Navy Week outreach.  Times Record News
  • Burkburnett High School Culinary Art students from BISD will serve Pumpkin Cheese Soup at the Empty Bowls event on October 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. to raise funds for local food banks and support residents facing hunger—this event helps them perfect their recipes and work as a team.  News Channel 6
  • Sheldon is a shepherd mix aged about 3 to 4 months named Pet of the Week by Wichita Falls Animal Services. Those interested in adopting him can visit 1207 Hatton Rd and pay a $40 adoption fee (prepay for his neutering and rabies shot).  News Channel 6
  • The Texas-Oklahoma Fair is in town with carnival rides, games and popular fair foods like deep-fried Oreos and funnel cakes at the Multi-Purpose Events Center (hosted by the Wichita Falls Founder Lions Club); the event runs today from 1-10 p.m. (general admission is $10 and military is $5).  Times Record News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Wichita Falls Economic Development Corporation voted on Thursday to sell more than 225 acres in the Business Park to Texas Data Center Campus LLC—pending final city council approval on Oct. 7—with plans for a hyperscale data center. Ground work will begin in early 2026 and the center is expected to create about 300 high-salary jobs.  Times Record News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Vitale's Karate Academy will host a Bully Prevention Workshop to teach youth methods for handling conflict and preventing bullying in Wichita Falls— the event will provide practical skills for students.  News Channel 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Before leaving Wichita Falls this weekend, the U.S. Navy performed ceremonial rifle training at News Channel6—demonstrating teamwork and precision without a hitch. They will repeat the display at the MSU Texas football game tomorrow at 5:45 p.m.  News Channel 6

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Wichita Falls and Wichita County Public Health District conducted restaurant inspections from Sept. 12th to 18th, finding a mix of perfect scores and lower ratings at food outlets including retail, mobile kitchens, and school kitchens—Texas Flaming Grill had issues like dead flies and damaged floors that were corrected. These inspections help ensure food safety compliance in Wichita Falls.  Times Record News
