- ➤ Wichita Falls hosted its annual ACS Rely for Life Dinner to honor cancer survivors and caregivers—bringing local residents together to recognize the strength and hope in the fight against cancer. News Channel 6

- ➤ Snookie’s Craft Kitchen, once a participant in the i.d.e.a. WF program, will cater the luncheon on Oct. 15 for the new winner—its owners call the event a full-circle moment to give back to the community that helped launch their business. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Midwestern State University set a new record by admitting 980 first-time and full-time students this fall and marking a 5.2% increase over last fall—campus housing in Pierce Hall also increased 2.3% as classes grew fuller. News Channel 6
- ➤ Burkburnett Middle School’s S2S Club was named Military Child Education Coalition Worldwide Middle School Team of the Year for its work in welcoming new military students — team sponsor Mrs. Wallace was also recognized for her support. The award highlights the club’s role in helping students adjust to life in a military community. News Channel 6
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, September 30th, DPS suspended issuance of certain commercial driver licenses — including non-domicile CDLs and permits for non-citizen refugees, asylees and DACA recipients — following an emergency rule change by the FMCSA at Governor Abbott's directive. News Channel 6
- ➤ Texas Gov. Abbott directed DPS to boost security at places of worship after a church shooting in Michigan on Sept. 28. DPS will work with local and federal law enforcement agencies—Texas Highway Patrol, Criminal Investigations Division and Texas Rangers—to check for threats and keep faith places safe.
