- ➤ Wichita Falls native Olympic athlete Taliyah Brooks was honored at Booker T. Washington Elementary School on Oct. 2 for winning a bronze medal in the heptathlon at the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo—local residents and school staff celebrated her achievement. Times Record News
- ➤ Wichita Falls Animal Services featured Jake, a five-year-old pit bull/lab mix who loves to play and knows commands like sit and shake. He is already neutered — his adoption fee is only $40 at the facility on Hatton Road. News Channel 6
- ➤ Local groups in Wichita Falls are offering many Halloween events for families including a dinosaur fun run on Oct. 11, a fall carnival, a vendor market, and a conference. The events run from Oct. 11 to Oct. 26 — each planned with safe, fun activities for the community. News Channel 6
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ TxDOT said October is the deadliest month for pedestrians as 89 were killed statewide last October and 25 crashes in the Wichita Falls District caused 4 deaths and 6 injuries. Officials urge drivers and pedestrians to stay alert with Halloween coming—TxDOT will hold a Pedestrian Safety Event downtown on Oct. 27 from 2 to 6 p.m. News Channel 6

- ➤ Nightmares of Terror brings its spooky haunted house to Sikes Senter Mall—marking the first indoor haunted attraction in the mall and expanding to a space four times larger than its previous downtown location. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAA Texas reported that the statewide average for regular unleaded gas is $2.75 per gallon, a one cent increase from last week and a one cent decrease from last year — seasonal factors like declining demand and the switch to winter-blend gasoline keep prices stable. News Channel 6
- ➤ The Dallas Fed’s survey shows that Texas oil and gas workers cut nearly four work hours each week while no one lost their job and oil prices held at $65 per barrel; the report also noted a small decline in oil production and higher costs that leave energy companies unsure about new drilling investments. - ➤ The City of Wichita Falls is reviewing its outdoor warning system and will test two sirens on Monday, October 6 on Huntington Lane and Kiel Road—Wellington Lane and Reilly Road to reduce disruptions in less populated areas.
