COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City council approved a lease of 15 acres at Kiwanis Park to nonprofit Miniature Wonders for a walking trail with 3D-printed models of local landmarks such as the Holt Hotel, Hotter’N Hell Hundred starting line, and Sheppard Air Force Base—plans call for an admission fee of about $14 to support local charities and the attraction is expected to open by next June or July.  News Channel 6
  • Today the Wichita Falls Does Drove held its 154th charity fundraiser luncheon at Elks Lodge where $15 all-you-can-eat spaghetti plates, including a spicy option, raised funds for groups such as hospice, dog rescue and teen shelters — organizers now offer take-out pans and will host the next luncheon on the second Tuesday in April.  News Channel 6

  • WinCo Foods has announced that its new store will open on October 13 at 9 a.m.—the warehouse-style location at 3015 Wenonah Ave will offer limited giveaways on opening day.   • District 4 City Councilor Michael Battaglino will host a town hall on Monday, October 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Thomas Fowler American Legion Post 169 on Lakeshore Drive—he will listen to community concerns and future plans for the district.  News Channel 6
  • Local organizations in Wichita Falls are stepping in during the government shutdown—day seven—to ensure neighbors have access to food if shortages worsen. The Wichita Falls Area Food Bank and Meals on Wheels are urging community support through volunteering while continuing to deliver essential services.  News Channel 6
  • Wichita Falls organizations are feeding families during the ongoing government shutdown—ensuring meals stay available despite interruptions in services.  News Channel 6
  • On Tuesday, Wichita Falls City Council approved the sale of over 225 acres in the Business Park to Texas Data Center Campus, a project expected to bring billions in investment and 300 jobs over four years. Councilors also approved spending up to $300,000 for temporary management of Sikes Senter — the city plans to finalize the $28 million mall purchase on Oct. 15.  Times Record News

  • The first annual Texoma Health and Wellness Expo will take place Thursday at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Wichita Falls Convention Center at 306 Travis St.—offering over 60 healthcare vendors, free flu shots, and a complimentary full panel blood screening from 8-10 a.m. attendees will have access to various health resources with a $3 admission fee.  Times Record News
  • The Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District confirmed the first human West Nile Virus case in Wichita County this year—verified by the Texas Department of State Health Services laboratory. City officials also reported that 21 mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile Virus and one sample near Russell Drive west of Sheppard Air Force Base tested positive for Saint Louis Encephalitis Virus.  Times Record News
