  • Today, the Just Between Friends pop-up sale is at Sikes Senter Mall with free admission and discounts of 50% to 90% off, as 450 families offer new and used items to help with rising costs. Unsold goods will be donated to charities supporting foster families—free clothing closets and non-profits helping children.  News Channel 6
  • P.O.E.M. Christian Center will host Citywide National Youth Prayer in Wichita Falls as part of a national call for youth engagement—event details are pending.  News Channel 6

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wichita Falls Parks and Recreation will host a free concert featuring Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute band Texas Flood at Bud Daniels Park on Tuesday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m.—the Dallas-based band includes guitarist Tommy Katona, bassist Steve Buckner and drummer Travis Montoya and invites guests to bring their own chairs.  News Channel 6

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA Texas released gas price data showing the Texas average dropped four cents to $2.71 while Wichita Falls drivers now pay $2.64. Demand fell over four months and AAA Texas said winter-blend fuel and higher inventories will likely push prices lower in the coming weeks — a boost for drivers.  News Channel 6
  • Texas Workforce Solutions hosted the Second Chance Job Fair at Sikes Senter Mall where over 30 employers from manufacturing, healthcare, retail and trades offered more than 100 job opportunities. Job seekers took part in résumé tune-ups, mock interviews and other training sessions—measures aimed at helping those with troubled pasts start fresh.  News Channel 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas law allows neighbors to record areas visible to the public, such as front yards and driveways — since there is no reasonable expectation of privacy. However, aiming cameras at private spaces like bedrooms or bathrooms is illegal — it can lead to criminal charges or civil lawsuits.  Times Record News
  • On Thursday, October 9, the Texas Comptroller announced that $1.1 billion in sales tax money was given to local governments — including cities, transit systems, counties and special purpose districts — based on August sales from businesses. The amount is 3.9 percent higher than in October 2024 and will add more funds to local budgets.  News Channel 6
  • Drivers along Kemp Boulevard will face closed northbound center and right lanes in front of Barwise Middle School for water main repairs beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday — the city expects repairs to finish and lanes to reopen by Tuesday and advises planning alternate routes to avoid delays.  Times Record News
  • At DPS Headquarters in Austin, four troopers and two corporals were honored with lifesaving awards for their quick actions during life-threatening emergencies. Trooper Ivan Brightwell rescued a trapped crash victim while Corporal Erick De Leon was recognized for emergency medical response — the awards were presented by DPS leadership.  News Channel 6
