COMMUNITY NEWS

  • River Bend Nature Center is set to host the Not-So-Scary-Halloween event — providing a family-friendly celebration with activities for local residents.  News Channel 6
  • Bridge to the Badge is putting together over 500 gift bags for first responders to support their work—volunteers are gathering the supplies needed to finish the project soon.  News Channel 6
  • The Wichita Falls Area Food Bank announced a new partnership with WinCo Foods in the newly opened supermarket to bring more fresh items to local residents. Bryan Miller said the food bank will rescue food that might otherwise be thrown away — helping get needed supplies to neighbors faster.  News Channel 6

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Red River Valley Museum is hosting the 5th Annual Youth Art Show — 'Nighttime Tales: Dreams, Fantasies, and Fears' — featuring 75 artworks by young artists ages 5 to 17. Visitors can vote for their favorite piece — each free vote counts toward a Viewer’s Choice Award — and the museum will host a Kids Free Day on Oct. 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  News Channel 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Vernon College held its second annual Military Day to help service members, including active duty, veterans and spouses, explore educational options and learn how to use military benefits. The event connected them with college programs and free ApplyTexas admission for incoming freshmen and transfer students who can apply until Oct. 19.  News Channel 6
  • The WFISD Board of Trustees voted to add Booker T. Washington and Southern Hills Elementary School (set for oversight by private company Third Future) to the group of schools, with the new contract starting in 2026. This decision comes as the district works to boost academic performance from an early age.  News Channel 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kourtney Kouns, coordinator of application services at United Regional Health Care System, was appointed to the THSA Board of Directors—one of 14 members chosen by Gov. Greg Abbott. She brings over 18 years of nursing and healthcare experience to the board.  News Channel 6

SPORTS NEWS

  • Emma Kasza-James from Midwestern State University placed 15th out of 56 competitors in the female varsity short track race at the Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships on October 9 at Powderhorn Ski Resort in Junction, Colorado — marking the MSU Cycling team’s best finish at the event.  News Channel 6
