ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gasoline prices in Texas dropped by 18.2 cents per gallon from last month and are 16.2 cents lower than last year according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations—today's average is $2.54 per gallon. The survey also shows the cheapest station charged $2.09 per gallon while the priciest charged $3.99 per gallon, a gap of $1.90. News Channel 6
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ WFISD board members met today and listened to parents while honoring the Memorial High School girls soccer team for academic achievement and discussing plans to improve school safety and academics. Superintendent Donny Lee said early intervention will start at the elementary level and announced a new partnership with a K—9 service to boost campus security. News Channel 6
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Clay County Judge Mike Campbell issued a burn ban effective October 20 that will last until October 28 unless it is lifted sooner—this order exempts firefighter training, utility work, natural gas pipeline and mining operations, while welding is allowed only if two people work together using a sprayer with 100 gallons of water and outdoor cooking is permitted only in an enclosed container. - ➤ Texas officials said that if the federal shutdown continues past Oct. 27, SNAP food assistance will not be issued in November to more than 3.5 million Texans— including 1.7 million children. Lone Star Card users are advised to check the Texas Health and Human Services website for updates on the program. Times Record News
