COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Sheppard AFB Cookie Committee is asking local businesses and organizations to donate items to fill 4,000 goodie bags for Airmen at Sheppard AFB. Donated items include homemade cookies, a candy cane, hot cocoa and apple cider packets, and a goodie bag—organizations giving the most will win the 2025 Community Partner Trophy.  News Channel 6

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Better Business Bureau honored north Texas businesses with the Torch Award for Ethics for showing high business standards. The award recognizes companies that have committed to ethical practices in the region.  News Channel 6
  • The Better Business Bureau recently held its 2025 Torch Awards for Ethics in Wichita Falls and chose 29 finalists from 52 applications while awarding six winners and one Spark Award recipient. Pamper Pets and companies like Always Auto Browning Electric, Crossvine Financial Firm, Pratt & Whitney, and Secord & Lebow Architects were honored for ethical practices — a sign of trust in local business services.  News Channel 6

CULTURE NEWS

  • Professor Catherine Prose at MSU received the Jane Spears Carnes Faculty Fellowship in Creative Endeavors (for one semester) to work on a project that uses 200 pressed flowers from her grandmother's collection. Her work, (Impressions of Pressed Wildflowers), uses printing and laser engraving techniques to honor Wichita Falls' art scene.  News Channel 6
  • A colorful exhibit called 6x6 ROYGBIV will be on display at North Light Gallery with a silent auction that benefits the Arts Council of Wichita Falls’ galleries and education programs—an event replacing the annual mystery art show. A free artist reception is scheduled for November 6 and the exhibit will run until November 20.  News Channel 6

ECONOMY NEWS

  • GasBuddy reported that Texas gasoline prices dropped 9.6 cents per gallon in the last week, with prices now 28.5 cents lower than a month ago and 8.7 cents lower than a year ago. The survey of 13,114 stations shows the cheapest reading at $2.01/g and the highest at $3.99/g (a difference of $1.98/g).  News Channel 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wichita Falls Housing Authority is extending its waitlist application deadline for lower income housing from October 31st to December 31st—officials said many applicants were unprepared to advance in the process. Interested residents can pick up paper applications at the Housing Authority office during business hours.  News Channel 6

HEALTH NEWS

  • Midwestern State University’s Gaines Dental Hygiene Clinic will offer free dental cleanings and x-rays to veterans in celebration of Veteran’s Day on November 11—appointments are available from November 10 to November 13 and will be performed by dental hygiene students under faculty and dentist supervision.  News Channel 6
