  • Local owners Jennifer McFarland and her husband will open the Peach Cobbler Factory at 4111 Southwest Parkway in Wichita Falls in January — the shop will serve cobblers, ice cream, banana pudding, cinnamon rolls, churros and shakes with a soft opening followed by a grand opening.  Times Record News

CULTURE NEWS

  • MSU-Burns Fantasy of Lights will begin on Nov 24 when MSU Texas President Stacia Haynie flips the switch after 6 p.m. to light the Hardin Administration Building lawn — a tradition that includes carillon music by Jim Quashnock, Santa Claus for photos until 8 p.m., and free admission with donations welcomed.  Times Record News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • City View Mustang Band is marching to the UIL Academics state contest next week in San Antonio. The band (which includes students from eighth grade to seniors) worked hard all year and will compete in Class 3a at the Alamodome (facing teams from Iowa Park and Holliday).  News Channel 6
  • Catherine Prose was awarded MSU honors — the award recognizes her unique contributions, and further details are awaited.   News Channel 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Foresters with the Texas A and M Forest Service celebrated Texas Arbor Day on Nov. 7 by hosting school presentations, tree plantings, and tree giveaways plus distributing over 7,400 seedlings to students, organizations, and communities across 24 counties; an extra 5,000 seedlings were given at additional sites.  News Channel 6

  • The Wichita Falls Public Library will be closed Monday through Nov. 22 for new carpeting installation — the book drop will be closed and check outs paused with no late fees accruing until the library reopens at 9 a.m. on Nov. 24.  Times Record News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Clay County Memorial Hospital hosted a seminar to help seniors understand Medicare options—officials noted that traditional Medicare pays more for hospital admissions than Medicare Advantage. Attendee Eddie Kelton learned he was overpaying for extra prescription coverage and urged others to check their plans carefully.  News Channel 6

  • The City of Wichita Falls Animal Services recently featured Miles, a 7-month-old kitten who loves mousy toys and treats. He is available for adoption at 1207 Hatton Road (with an adoption fee of $40 that covers his neuter and rabies shot) from the local agency.  News Channel 6

  • Today, high school football fans in Wichita Falls can expect mild weather with a high near 80 and a quick drop in temperature by evening so wearing a light jacket is advised — tomorrow will start in the mid-40s with breezy conditions and a cold snap is expected on Sunday with an overnight freeze.  News Channel 6
