COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters will receive a $1,500 Kramer Barnard Memorial Grant (an inaugural award) from the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation to replace a broken electronic scoreboard at its gym. The grant honors 12-year-old Kramer with a love for sports and the outdoors and will support youth recreation programs.  News Channel 6
  • A Wichita Falls single mother lost her job after an ex-boyfriend repeatedly disrupted her workplace and fell behind on rent while managing childcare costs; the Salvation Army and Times Charities provided rental assistance so she can move into a more affordable apartment.  Times Record News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Grocery shoppers in Wichita Falls must plan ahead for Christmas meals as most local stores close on Christmas Day and adjust their Christmas Eve hours. Walmart and Sam's Club stop serving at 6 p.m., United and Aldi at 7 p.m., Winco closes at 5:30 p.m. (reopening Dec. 26), and Target stays open until 8 p.m.  Times Record News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The principal of Booker T. Washington Elementary has raised funds to host a Christmas event — the school plans festive holiday activities for its students. The celebration will be held at the school where families can expect a joyful experience.  News Channel 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials approved a $3.7 million extension of South Wenonah Avenue to ease traffic near busy shopping at WinCo and Academy Sports (a plan to spur new development). Construction will begin in February 2026 and finish by year-end.  News Channel 6
  • Texas law allows liquor stores to operate until 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve while requiring closure on New Year's Day. Kock's Liquor in Wichita Falls will maintain normal hours amid a slight uptick in holiday purchases, according to local manager Angela Chei.  Times Record News
  • On Monday, Dec. 16, Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo added a retired F-16 from Sheppard to its firefighter training program, using the jet in a pilot rescue demonstration. The aircraft, known as the Viper (retired from Wichita Falls), now helps train service members in real-world emergency tactics.  Times Record News

  • MSU Texas Mustangs celebrated their first Division II Men’s Soccer National Championship last night at Midwestern State University when a cheering crowd welcomed their historic win — Athletic Director Kyle Williams credited decades of dedication for the achievement.  News Channel 6
