CRIME NEWS

  • Wichita Falls Police arrested Elmondo Leunsay Gildon, 44, on five counts of unlawful possession of a firearm during a SWAT raid on his North Oriole Street home on Wednesday—his arrest is linked to an ongoing murder investigation in which three women were charged with perjury and later released on bail while Gildon remains in custody with a total bond of $2.25 million.  Times Record News
  • Wichita Falls Area Crime Stoppers updated the Texoma’s Most Wanted List with five new suspects—Jared Backus charged with possession of a controlled substance, Tammie Bible charged with possession of a controlled substance, Jose Coronado-Gonzalez charged with deadly conduct, Raymond Figueroa charged with burglary of habitation, and Armesha Jackson charged with possession of a controlled substance.  News Channel 6
  • Joseph Alaniz, one of the parents accused of child endangerment, took a guilty plea and was sentenced to 2 years in jail after his May arrest when he left United Regional Hospital following his child’s positive methamphetamine test.  News Channel 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City Nature Challenge—celebrating its 10th year—will take place from April 25 to April 28 to offer residents in Archer, Baylor, Clay, Foard, Jack, Hardeman, Montague, Wilbarger, Wichita and Young counties the chance to record local wildlife with free mobile apps like iNaturalist and support vital biodiversity studies.  News Channel 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Wichita Falls City Council will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the Seminar Room at the MPEC to vote on annexing 33 acres on Randy Drive for future data centers and a gas power plant. The council will also discuss buying a vacuum truck for sewer cleaning—upgrading airport parking gates, adopting a neighborhood revitalization plan, setting standards for the summer day camp and acquiring two new GMC pickups.  Times Record News

  • On April 10th, the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District held its annual health fair in Wichita Falls—inviting visitors to play games, join a bike rodeo, and learn safety tips from the fire department and animal control.
