  • The Wetter N’Hell Hundred Rubber Duck Race fundraiser is underway in Wichita Falls — proceeds benefit thirty nonprofits including American Legion and Zavala. The Wichita Falls Southwest Rotary Club will distribute funds and cash prizes at Castaway Cove on September 6.  News Channel 6

ECONOMY NEWS

  • GasBuddy reported that Texas gasoline prices increased by 6.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.73 today — the prices are 1.7 cents lower than a month ago and 24.1 cents lower than a year ago, with station prices ranging from $2.19 to $4.09 per gallon.  News Channel 6
  • The Texas Labor Market reported that 8,700 jobs were added in July, bringing the state's total to 14,333,800 nonfarm positions with a 1.6 percent growth—exceeding the national rate by 0.6 percentage points. TWC Commissioner Joe Esparza said a wide range of industries contributed to the growth.  News Channel 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents adopted new rules that set up faculty senates at five universities if they meet Texas Education Code 51.3522 by Sept. 1 — these guidelines limit membership, designate appointed and elected positions, and keep the senate advisory to the university president.  Times Record News
  • Wichita Falls City Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2025-26 budget Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. in the Seminar Room of the Ray Clymer Exhibit Hall; the $252.7 million plan calls for a lower property tax rate, increased water and sewer rates, a revised camping ordinance to address homelessness, and steps to form a Homeless Advisory Committee.  Times Record News
